Very welcoming staff. Log fire on a cold day. Slightly wider menu than usual including game and vegetarian. The mixed game burgers were excellent. Add good beer and what more could you want!

Perfect environment to spend a quiet night away from the fireworks with our dog. We travelled from south Manchester and it was well worth it. The staff made us very welcome and the food was amazing Thank you

Pleasant, large, country pub. The building has quite a history and a pub has been here for a long time. Interesting photos and pictures of the pub through the ages. Good choice of cask beers and pleasant staff. Location is somewhat remote on the way over the Woodhead Pass. Menu looked good - although we didn't eat.

Dog & Partridge Country Inn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Had a wonderful experience at the Dog & Partridge Country Inn. The food was absolutely amazing, beautifully cooked and full of flavour. The service was fantastic from start to finish, with genuinely friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and dogs are made very welcome too, which was a lovely touch. Highly recommended!

Real country inn, warm and cosy, room was roomy, clean. Had twin beds, only problem was a very squeaky bed every time I moved. Breakfast was great, staff are really lovely, needed a knife to slice through the porridge though. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Did a campervan stopover. No charge but you do have to eat drink or book breakfast to stay. We had dinner which was super tasty, really nice menu not over complicated. Good choices, very warm atmosphere and welcoming. Staff excellent We also had breakfast which had plenty of choice big pot of tea coffee fresh orange and plenty of toast, along side a full English. All for £10 per person. Will definitely stay again. They do clean the loos in the morning so you can't use them. Thought that was a little strange as they offer breakfast. Wouldn't put me off though.

We stayed here for one night with our child and our dog. It was a last-minute booking, so big plus for that — they were really accommodating. Everything was easy to arrange over the phone, and it even turned out a little cheaper than on some booking sites. We’d mentioned during the call that we’d like to eat once we arrived, and our table was ready when we got there — a really nice touch, especially after a long drive and a bit of disappointment with another booking earlier that day. We were then directed to our room. The room was small but fine for one night. There wasn’t a wardrobe, but there were hangers for jackets and coats. No separate cloakroom area, so the bed was in the same space as our shoes and bags. The double bed seemed a bit small, but we managed to squeeze in. The single bed was a standard small size. The TV didn’t have Netflix or any smart options, just a few regular channels, so if you’re travelling with children and planning a little movie night after a long day, that won’t really work. We played cards instead, which was fun, but I wouldn’t have minded watching a nice film too. The bathroom was a decent size, towels were provided, and the room overall could do with a little TLC — but nothing major. There was a kettle in the room and three cups provided. It was a bit cold for my liking as they use underfloor heating, which our dog didn’t like much. It only went up to 20°C — fine for overnight, but after coming back from the warm pub area it did feel chilly. We were offered an extra blanket though, and that solved it quickly. The hotel is the only one available in the area, which is why we stayed there — and the access to nearby walks is great. However, it’s right by a busy road, so just bear that in mind if you have small kids or dogs. Parking is hidden around the back, which is good as you don’t need to leave your car near the road, but if you plan to go for a walk you need to be careful. There’s also a grass area at the back, but it was full of dog poo — not the hotel’s fault, just people who can’t be bothered to clean up after their pups. Shame on them. Breakfast was included in the price. It wasn’t a buffet but you could order from the menu. The full English came with tomato, one sausage, scrambled egg, beans, half a mushroom, bacon (a bit dry), and fried bread — no hash browns, which we all love, so that was a little disappointing. They were flexible with options for our daughter, who’s a fussy eater (especially in the mornings). There were cereal options and they happily fried extra eggs for her. Dinner the night before was a burger, gammon, and a very cheesy pizza for our daughter — they made it extra cheesy, and she said it was one of the best pizzas she’s ever had apart from one in Italy, so it must’ve been good! My gammon was a bit dry, so I didn’t finish it all, and there wasn’t much veg apart from a small portion of peas. My husband’s side salad was rather small too. But the young waiter made the whole experience enjoyable. We played cards after dinner, and there were board games available too, which was a nice touch. The cosy pub atmosphere really added to the evening. Overall, it was a good experience. The staff were friendly, and it was really clean — which is very important to me as someone who suffers from allergies. In general, a good stay — could be slightly cheaper, but I’d pay for the location. The food could be improved, which might be the only reason I’d hesitate to stay again. But for a last-minute stop and a one-night stay, it’s definitely worth considering — plus it’s truly dog-friendly, and our dog loved it!

Book a night here, amazing room (No12) with the most comfortable bed ever!! We had a delicious evening meal with fresh local produce. Breckfast was also amazing. We will definitely be back.
